Remember how your site looked way back when? I sure can’t! In order to stay current with the latest trends in design and Web technology, the Guidance Web site has gone through multiple iterations – over 300 of them, according to this tool I found out about recently at the Shop.org Annual Summit.
It’s the Internet Archive, www.archive.org, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library. It’s been in existence since 1996, but as I noticed on the faces of Shop.org attendees, many of us have just found out about it. With Internet Archive’s “Wayback Machine” you can browse through over 150 billion Web pages that have been archived since 1996. Most pages are archived until 2008, as it takes time for the Internet Archive to collect, transfer material to long-term storage and index all available content on the Web. But it’s certainly worth checking out!
