This week's Featured Employee is Radu, one of our .NET Technical Lead and Architects. Our resident athlete, Radu comes to us all the way from Romania in Eastern Europe. We asked Radu to answer a few questions for us, check out what he had to say:
What’s your title?
.NET Technical Lead /Architect
How long have you been at Guidance?
Almost 2 and a half years.
Tell us about your hometown.
I grew up in the town of Târgu Lăpuş in northern Transylvania, Romania. It is a small town where everybody knows everybody. That makes it a great place to live when you’re a kid, but also one you want to run away from once you grow up.
What city do you currently live in?
How did you decide on this career?
Actually, this career decided on me. My plan was to be a professional soccer player, but that dream ended when my knee got injured during a game. While recovering from knee surgery, I realized I needed to find an alternate career. Math was my favorite subject in school, so I first tried Accounting and, man, did I hate that first chapter of the text book! Next up was Computer Science and I loved it. A Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree later and I still love it!
What was the oddest job you ever held?
I spent a summer in Allentown, PA while I was in college. I didn’t have a lot of experience yet, so I did a couple small jobs here and there, but my favorite – and probably the oddest – was when I worked at the register in a gas station. You meet a lot of people when you work the late night shift at a gas station, robbers included. You get asked all kinds of questions, too. Once, a guy asked me where I was from so I could tell him how to say a very particular word in my language. He was proud to already know the word in more than 10 other languages.
What do you like most about working at Guidance?
The office layout provides a great open environment that facilitates synergy between our group of very diverse people – another thing I like about Guidance. That … and the Marketing/PR Department. ;-)
