This week’s featured employee is Gordon, one of our Open Source Solutions Directors who works in our PHP/Magento/Drupal team. A newly wed, Gordon and his wife Sarah moved to L.A. late last year and so far they're enjoying the fun in the sun. We asked Gordon to answer a few questions for us, here’s what he said:
What’s your title?
Director of Open Source eCommerce Solutions
How long have you been at Guidance?
I've been with Guidance for 6 months.
Tell us about your hometown.
I was born and raised in sweet home Chicago! My wife and I moved out to Los Angeles in November of 2010 and are not missing the weather!
What city do you currently live in?
We first moved to West Hollywood when we came out to California, but have since settled into Playa Del Rey, down by the beach, which is much more our speed.
How did you decide on this career?
I've been experimenting with computers since an early age and started developing for the Web during college. My work with financial institutions in Chicago exposed me to many challenging problems and unique solutions.
What was the oddest job you ever held?
I was a runner/clerk at the Chicago Board of Trade. My job was to fight my way through screaming brokers to deliver orders and return receipts of trades. A high stress environment where every second counted. "The floor" is a fascinating place, if you've ever seen the movie Trading Spaces with Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd, you pretty much know what it's like.
What do you like most about working at Guidance?
The people are really great here. They've made me feel so welcome out here in California.
