This week's Featured Employee is Alfredo, one of our Technical Leads. Alfredo has been with Guidance for 2 and a half years. We asked Alfredo to answer a few questions for us, check them out:
What’s your title?
How long have you been at Guidance?
Tell us about your hometown.
I grew up in West Hills, CA, in the San Fernando Valley. It was a cool place to grow up – late nights at Sherman Oaks Billiards was cool and cruising down Ventura Boulevard was pretty fun. Hey, wasn’t that in a Tom Petty song?
What city do you currently live in?
West Hollywood, CA
How did you decide on this career?
I have always been interested in business and computers. I helped my dad transition his business from paper to digital when I was 12. I studied Business Management at San Diego State University and then met some really smart people while I was working in Telecom in ‘99. After that, things started falling into place and I obtained a minor in Computer Science. For me, eCommerce is a cross section between business and computers. It definitely keeps me engaged.
What was the oddest job you ever held?
Real Estate Development. I worked with my uncle for 2 years building homes in the deserts of San Diego. I wanted to start a company where software engineers could drive bulldozers for stress relief purposes (we’re a high strung bunch). There is nothing as relaxing as taking down a house with a chainsaw, bulldozer, and an F-350 lariat. Software engineers would totally pay to do that. Peter Gibbons loved his job working cleanup crew with Lawrence in Office Space, “This isn't so bad, huh? Makin' bucks, gettin' exercise, workin' outside.”
What do you like most about working at Guidance?
The type of complex problems you are required to solve. Sometimes it’s marketing, sometimes credit card processing, sometimes application design, or systems integration. The diverse teams and diverse business goals always keep you engaged.
