Meet Ale -- This Week's Featured Employee

October 8, 2010

This week's Featured Employee is Alejandra, who goes by Ale and is our PR & Marketing Director. Ale manages our marketing campaigns, our corporate image, website, blog, and yes, she is writing this in the third person. We asked Ale to answer a few questions for us, check out what she had to say:

What’s your title?
Director, PR & Marketing

How long have you been at Guidance?
2 years, 6 months and 9 days … but no one is counting ;-)

Tell us about your hometown.
Cupey (pronounced “koo-PAY”) is a town in the lovely city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is part of the metro area, so you have the amenities of living in a city mixed with the tropical flavor (and weather!) of living in a Caribbean island. The best thing about Cupey? A bakery and a pizza place called Facciola and Faccio, respectively. It’s a must if you’re in the area.

What city do you currently live in?
Santa Monica, California

How did you decide on this career?
I wanted to start my own business, so I figured a Management degree would be helpful. I originally majored in Operations Management, but after the first two classes of OPS 101, I felt that it wasn’t meant for me and that I needed something that would let me use my creativity and be around people, so I switched my major to Marketing, and the rest is history. Best decision I’ve ever made!

What was the oddest job you ever held?
I worked for a promotions company during my second year of college. They had all kinds of clients, from P&G, to Coca-Cola, to Shell. Once I had to hand out soap bars at a concert, another time I had to work at a gas station opening (smelled like gasoline for weeks after that!), and then once I had to hand out cans of a new line of tropical juices to people at the beach. Met a lot of people in the process. It was odd, but I loved it!

What do you like most about working at Guidance?
I love the flexibility that Guidance gives us to do our jobs. From schedule to location to dress code, to so much more, Guidance understands that flexibility is the key to productivity. One day I roll in at 10:00am wearing jeans and sandals, the next day I’m in a pencil skirt and heels meeting with clients at 8:00am, and the day after that I’m working from home in my PJs. That, to me, is absolutely priceless. I also like the company’s sustainability and social responsibility programs, like Guidance Green and A Healthy Guidance. Great people, awesome location … what’s not to like!
